Bama transfer Jamil Burroughs no longer with Miami

The late transfer to Miami mid-season last year reportedly will no longer be with Miami. Burroughs entered the transfer portal last June after an altercation with an Alabama staffer.

In three seasons with Alabama, Burroughs recorded 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks.

Burroughs was not projected to compete for a starting job, with C.J Clark, Jared Harrison-Hunte, Marley Cook, Josh Horton, Ahmad Moten, Armondo Blount, and Justin Scott projected to battle for playing time at defensive tackle.

ACC Rookie of the Year Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor each have experience moving inside on passing downs.

Miami could pursue another DT transfer this spring. The spring transfer portal window is open from April 16th through the 30th.

Antione Jackson eyeing return?

The former four-star DB from Fort Lauderdale Dillard could return home to the Hurricanes. The former Miami commit decided to sign with East Carolina instead of Miami last year to ensure that he get on the field as soon as possible.

Jackson registered 19 total tackles, 11 solo, and a pick-six in his freshman season at ECU.

He officially announced he is in the transfer portal today.

He is a former high school teammate of current Hurricanes Nyjalik Kelly, Christopher Johnson, and 2024 signee Armondo Blount.

Miami is in position to add transfers

Miami is looking to add to its roster and fill depth at key positions.

With the departure of Matt Lee, Zack Carpenter can be a legitimate replacement.
Carpenter originally signed with Michigan in the Class of 2019 and started 22 games at center for the Hooisers over the last two seasons.

In 2023, Carpenter allowed eight pressures and three sacks, according to Pro Football Focus. The fifth-year redshirt junior registered a 71.8 pass-blocking grade and a 61.0 run-blocking grade.
He has one year of eligibility left. UNC and Maryland also involved, but Carpenter is visiting Miami this weekend.

C.J. Clark could be a nice depth piece for the Miami defensive line with the departure of Leonard Taylor to the NFL and Branson Deen to graduation. Clark registered 22 tackles, including four for loss and one sack during the 2023 campaign. In his five seasons with the Wolfpack, Clark played in 42 games, tallying 72 tackles, including 7.5 for loss and four sacks. Clark visited Miami last weekend.

Nick Saban retires, what it means for Miami

Nick Saban, arguably the best head coach of all time in college football is retiring from college football according to reports.

Saban dominated college football during his time as a head coach winning seven national championships (Alabama - 6, LSU - 1).

I think this was a case where he wanted to go out on top. He won an SEC championship in his last season, haulting defending champion Georgia's 29-game winning streak. He led his team to the college football playoff and took the eventual national champion to overtime in a loss. It was arguably his best job as a coach.

The college football landscape is obviously changing with NIL and the Transfer Portal and Alabama is one of the programs that has not truly embraced the change. Ultimately causing the GOAT of college football exit the sport.

College football is also shifting toward younger offensive-minded coaches. Saban a defensive mind, won mostly on defense and a strong running game. He shifted as of late incorporating the pass game and produced elite college level quarterbacks: Mac Jones, Tua Tagovailoa, and Bryce Young.

For Miami, it means that another college football juggernaut will likely be on the decline. Miami has embraced NIL and the transfer portal as much as any program in the country and will likely continue to ascend.

Miami lost Kevin Riley from its recruiting class to Alabama in this cycle so there is a possibility he returns. Miami was in it until the very end with Zavier Mincey as well until he made his announcement just last weekend to the Tide.
